Composer in residency

I begin a wonderful experience. The renowned FACE School picked me as their composer in residency in order to celebrate their 35th anniversary. This includes four workshops about the fundamentals of composition for the students of grade 10 and 11. I will also compose close to forty minutes of music for their different ensembles: choir, string orchestra, concert band, percussions and other wind and brass formations. Already I met with the students and they produced some great composition material: melodic and rythmic motives plus some voice effects as well. You can read the press release.

If you wish to share some of your teaching experience in public school about composition, feel free to do so.

  1. So now the best micro tonal trumpeter I know is a Composer in Residence. Good man!
Those kids are fortunate to have such an enthusiastic, effervescent invigorating musician.
When Wanda Kaluzny told me you’d retired from playing I thought: Aha! Now Louis’s going to do something even more interesting. Et voilá.
    Félicitations

  2. Hey Louis,

Congratulations on the FACE gig! I’m sure you’ll love it. I have been doing some teaching recently (mainly percussion and Pro Tools) at ECS, a private girls school, and find it extremely gratifying. But teaching composition will likely be an incredible opportunity to shape these young people’s aesthetic sensibilities and sensitivity to not only music, but the creative process in general. And you are the right man for it. I’m sure that, with your easy going and friendly nature, they will connect with you instantly. And congratulations on the new site – it looks great!
