McGill Chamber Orchestra presents “La Suite du promeneur”

On May 5th, conductor Boris Brott will introduce La Suite du Promeneur to the McGill Chamber Orchestra’s program. Louis Babin and Brott will be reunited 23 years after the work’s initial creation by the Orchestre de l’Isle, which the maestro conducted at the time.

The concert will take place in the magnificent Montreal Museum of Fine Arts’ Bourgie Hall at 20:00.

La Suite du Promeneur has been performed by many orchestras since its inception and broadcasted in numerous countries. La Suite appeals to the listener’s heart and his desire to live life to the fullest. As Louis Babin observes in the program notes,

Do not be a mere spectator. Do not be afraid of mistakes. Go to the end with the undoubted satisfaction of not being outdone by life.

Boris Brott, Louis Babin, as well as Belgian violinist and guest soloist Marc Bouchkov, will take part in a discussion preceding the concert, at 18:30. Bouchkov won the First Prize at the 12th Montreal International Musical Competition.

Selected works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky will also be performed.

Funding On And So is Saint-Exupéry’s Project

With the support of over 200 backers, the funding raised over 20,000 $ to help financing my musical project about the work of Saint-Exupéry. The crowd funding used the Kickstarter platform but also cheques and some cash. I am deeply touched by the amount of people that showed enough interest in my musical project to back me up.

Now here is the next step : the album production. here is a video excerpt of Saint-Exupéry : de cœur, de sable et d’étoiles taken from the recording session. The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Mæstro Petr Vronsky.

The album release is expected at mid May. This is an important step toward the creation of an hommage concert for Saint-Exupéry.

Since its launch on January 18, the crowdfunding campaign for my musical project on Antoine de Saint Exupery has generated a lot of interest. So far, almost 100 backers have contributed over $7 700 to support the production of an album containing my symphonic piece Saint Exupery : of Heart, of Sand and of Soul, as well as the creation of a concert in tribute to this great French writer.

This great mark of solidarity moves me. Furthermore, I have reveiced fantastic news from the Antoine de Saint Exupery Youth Foundation which has it’s headquarters in Paris.

The Foundation has accepted my collaboration proposal. It means that following the lauching of the album this spring, part of the sales will help support the Foundation’s local initiatives helping struggling youth in France and around the world.

There is still time to back the Saint Exupery musical projet and make it come to life. On the project’s website, you can watch a short video providing more details and excerpts from my symphonic work recorded during its creation in 2012. I would also like to warmly thank my friends Joanne Mercier, Sylvie Bélanger, and Roger Guérin who support me by voluntarily producing the presentation video.

If Saint Exupery’s work moves you or if you want to support my crowdfunding campaign, I invite you to do so quickly. It ends on February 23. You can obtain a downloadable version of my piece, or a CD by participating.

And if you contribute financially and spread the word among your network, a big thank you in advance !

This year I decided to make the project of my life a reality. I intend to rush headlong to make my music heard despite the budget cuts in culture affecting me personally as so many other creators and colleagues.

I launched on January 18 a crowdfunding initiative to support the production of an album of my symphonic work about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. (Over 70 backers supports the project.) The album will be the basis of a tribute concert honoring the author known worldwide for his novel The Little Prince and his humanist work.
